I prefer dark chocolate but since my son Madden loves milk chocolate, I made these with him in mind. He literally won’t eat anything with dark chocolate and can tell what kind of chocolate I used in a recipe upon the first bite. I guess you can say he is our chocolate connoisseur.

Growing up I made cake mix cookies all the time but it has been like 20-years since I last made them. And then when I wanted to make a simple treat recently, it was when I remembered this recipe. I was so excited to share this recipe with my kids and they are obsessed.

What is a cake cookie?

A cookie that is a baked or cooked food that is small, flat and sweet that the base of the cookie is made out of a cake mix.

How do you make cake cookies?

You are just a few simple steps to make these delicious cake cookies.

Make sure to preheat oven at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Then in a large bowl mix together cake mix, eggs, and oil in a large bowl until well combined. Stir in chocolate chips, if you are adding those in. These are totally optional, but I sure do love them.

Scoop dough with cookie dough scoop (or by the tablespoon) and set on ungreased cookie sheets. It’s important that the cookie sheets are ungreased.

Place the cookies in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes.

Enjoy!

Can you freeze cake cookies?

Yes, this works really well. I stack them and place them in a freezer Ziplock bag. Make sure to seal shut with squeezing as much air out as possible.

My whole family sampled them as they came out of the oven and everyone gave them 5 stars!! Thank you for posting such a successful, delicious easy recipe for all of us whose busy lives work better with short cuts!! Happy Holidays 🙂

  2. Thank you for this recipe!! Please can you tell me the quantity of the box, it says everywhere 1 box but I dont know how much that quantity is.

    1. We usually use Duncan Hines for this recipe, the mix is 15.25 oz or 432 grams. It looks like Betty Crocker is the same size, so you can use either one!
