Springtime means soccer time for many of us. This year is no exception for us. We have two little soccer players who eagerly await every game, practice, and most importantly, the post-game treat.
For our youngest, 4-year-old Cannon, this is his first season. Having four older siblings who he’s watched since birth, made it highly anticipated. He loves sports in general but was super anxious to play soccer like his big brothers and sisters.

He’s spectated from the sidelines – wait, let me correct that – he’s impatiently cried on the sidelines, not because we were at the games, but because he couldn’t play in any of them. My husband was continuously the #sidelinehero, distracting Cannon while we cheered on one of his siblings. But this was the year: his year to play. And oh how he’s loved it.

When we went to get his jersey and cleats, he immediately put them on and wore them for the rest of the day. When I told him that he wouldn’t be playing soccer for another week, tears gushed down his little face. It was too cute for words.

Cannon’s team, the Flying Fish Ninja Warriors, are all super excited to score – regardless of whose goal it’s on, especially Cannon. He’s scored seven goals so far this season, including three for his own team! The entire game though, he runs up and down the field with either a big smile on his face or pounding his knuckles together and scowling at his opponents, not really knowing why other than hearing his 6-year-old sister shouting as-close-as-you-can-get-to-out-of-control warnings and livid frustrations from the sideline. We’ve had other parents ask us if she’s okay. We really don’t know how to respond. But when he scores for either team, his grin is priceless, and Jersey’s cheers are just as awesome.

The second best part of soccer for Cannon is the snacks. He looks forward to those sideline treats. This year instead of the typical crackers, chips or cookies, we made Ninja Kabobs with fresh fruit and this Triple Berry Fruit Dip. Along with it, we also took POWERADE® and tied on a red Ninja headband to tie it all together. Cannon loved it.

The moment we made them and put it all together, he showed everyone and was super anxious to share with his buddies – not a natural reaction for him. In fact, the kids loved them so much, we ate and drank them before the game, resulting in having to remake the treat again for his last soccer game.

Fresh fruit and POWERADE® made me the new #sidelinehero. I was happy that their end-of-the-game treat was fresh, hydrating, and something Cannon will always remember. Pick up your favorite POWERADE® & fresh fruit at Walmart today.

So cheers to another soccer season, cluster ball, smiles, and scores for both teams.
Enjoy! XOXO San

How do you make Triple Berry Fruit Dip?

Add all ingredients into a food processor or blender. Blend on high for 30-40 seconds until smooth and creamy. Pour into a serving dish and Ziploc container and refrigerate 30-60 minutes.

If you are making this dip with kabobs, serve in individual containers. I picked some up at Walmart, 2-ounce mini cups with lids.
To make the kabobs, use the cocktail stirrers and slide each piece of cut-up fruit onto the “kabob”. You can use any fruit you want, what we use is listed above. Two pieces of watermelon, two pieces of cantaloupe, one piece of pineapple and two grapes.

Place dip and kabob in plastic bag and seal with a ribbon, like pictured.

Place kabobs in cooler with ice in addition to your favorite POWERADE® & you become the #sidelinehero.

This is one of my favorite ways to serve fruit. For some other ideas, check out Best Fruit Salad Recipes!

  1. I found this lovely recipe on Pinterest and it fascinates me! Your soccer story was icing on the cake! I loved your story and although he is now 36, I, too, have a son who is exactly the same way! He is wonderful now, as are all of my dear children, but my memories of Sam playing every sport available to him are indeed golden! Thanks for both the dip recipe and your precious story and keep enjoying your roll as Mom; it was the best part of my life!!
