My husband loves sitting down in front of our TV and watching some of his favorite teams face off in intense, close games, each looking for one shining moment. I, on the other hand, love making and preparing treats for the whole family to enjoy. My kids always ask for nachos and complex desserts. I prefer simple treats that are easy to prepare and don’t require much clean-up.

A big bowl of popcorn is a perfect treat for those times, allowing me to relax and cheer on my favorite players. While plain old popcorn is nice, adding a spark or a twist to this traditional treat makes the game even more exciting and enjoyable.

So today, I’m sharing one of our new favorite twists to one of our favorite basketball treats. I coated our popcorn with white chocolate and Skittles, giving a sweet side to this traditionally salty treat. And trust me, the entire family will love it. My kids couldn’t stop eating it, and even my husband snacked on some, which shocked me as he doesn’t like sweets. He said it took him back to his childhood, eating candied popcorn at the carnival. Score!

Since we have a large family, I made a batch for each color – 40 cups of colorful popcorn. It was nice that we were able to pick up an extra-large bag of Skittles at our local Sam’s Club, easy to find in the candy aisle – you can’t miss this bag! Are you a fan Skittles fan? How do you make Skittles Popcorn?

Line a baking/cookie sheet with parchment paper, pour the 8 cups of popcorn on top of the parchment paper and set aside.

Using a food processor, add in 1/2 cup Skittles, I did one color at a time.

Chop the Skittles in the processor until Skittles become granulated like sugar. Pour the Skittles “sugar” into a small bowl.

Melt white chocolate according to package directions, then immediately drizzle the heated chocolate over the popcorn. Using two spatulas, quickly stir popcorn 3-5 times to coat.

Immediately shake 1/4 cup of the Skittles “sugar” over the popcorn. Turn the popcorn once again, then add more Skittles “sugar” to your taste. I added an additional 2 tablespoons. You will have plenty, use as much as you would like.

Let it harden on wax paper, then break up and serve. Like I mentioned above, I made all 5 colors!

Store in an airtight container for 2-3 days. After 3 days it starts to get soft and chewy, but still yummy!

  1. Yummo! Popcorn is a favorite snack of mine and my son’s, and this sounds super tasty. Especially, considering skittles is one of my favorite candies.

  2. Now I want to see what else you can do with Skittles “sugar”! I’m sure that’s a crazy loud few seconds but I bet it tastes awesome!

  3. Great idea but difficult to complete. The popcorn just tasted like the white chocolate and it was hard to coat the popcorn evenly enough to get the Skittle powder to stick. Sorry but this is going in my Pinterest fail folder.
