My friend, Courtney recently made faux fondant and showed just how easy it is to decorate a cake using this fun method – How to frost a cake with faux fondant. After I watched this a dozen times, I knew I would try it. Instead of cake, I decided to try it on apples.

At first, I wasn’t sure it would work, so we made a few and used neon purple monsters – and it worked! After a few hours, the frosting was hard enough that we could handle it without getting all messy. I could even cut the apples without frosting everywhere, so I was excited and amazed. I love candied apples but they are just too much work, so this idea is just perfect for me.

The best part of these “candied” apples is that you can make them what you want. Ghosts, goblins, or monsters – choose your colors and decorations and you are set.

We liked the green monsters and ghosts the best. I just used hardening chocolate for the ghosts and then candy eyes which I got in the cake aisle at King Soopers.

Want to make a treat that everyone will ooh and ahh over but one that’s not over the top sweet? This treat is just for you.

Take the 10-15 minutes to make these Quick & Easy Halloween Candied Apples and you have a perfect treat for the centerpiece of any Halloween gathering. Enjoy! XOXO San

How do you make Halloween Candied Apples?

Wash and dry apples.

Add one Popsicle stick to the center, top of one apple. Repeat with remaining apples and sticks.

Remove the lid from frosting and place in the microwave for 30-seconds, then stir. Heat for another 10-15 seconds, until frosting is completely melted. Do not overheat, as the frosting will have a harder time sticking. I advise nothing over 45-second, but this is all dependent on your microwave.

Stir in food coloring at this time if you so desire.

Pour about 1/4 of the frosting into a bowl and set aside for later. You want to do this so that the frosting doesn’t spill over the sides when dipping.

One apple at a time, completely submerge the apple into the frosting container until the apple is completely covered. Gently shake or twist apple around to get off excess frosting. Place on wax or parchment paper and repeat with remaining apples and frosting. When needed, pour back in the frosting you set aside.

Let the apples sit for 5-10 minutes to let frosting set.

Place decorations, for instance, the candy googly eyes on the apples, gently press in if needed.

Let the apples rest for 4-6 hours until hardened. Serve and enjoy!

How do you store Candied Apples?

Make sure they are completely hardened before serving or storing.

Wrap in individual bags or wax paper to prevent sticking. Place in an airtight container to prevent the apples from browning.

How long do candied apples last?

Candied apples can last up to 3 days if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Make sure that frosting covers the hole made by the stick in the apples, to ensure they will last as long as possible.
