These Oreo Spider Cupcakes are a perfect, creepy, spidery treat for your little “gremlins”. They are a must-have for Halloween parties and festivities.

After seeing this adorable idea at Confessions of a Cook Book Queen, I knew I had to make them for Madden’s class party. With 5 kids, I rotate through holidays and kids on their class parties, so that everyone gets mom in their class for a party a year. I have a middle-schooler and one still at home, so this makes it doable.

These cupcakes are so easy to make, if you don’t have time to make cupcakes from scratch buy a boxed cake mix or pre-made cupcakes from the store and just add the spider…see even easier. They are so fun to make and just are the perfect Halloween treat.

These adorable cupcakes also inspired me to make these cute little Oreo Spider Cookie Sandwiches, check these out as well, you can use your extra frosting and Oreos to make them!

How do you make Oreo Spider Cupcakes?

Spiders
  • Lay out a long piece of wax paper on your counter.

  • Melt chocolate according to package directions, then pour into a medium sized mixing bowl.

  • Holding the bottom part of the Oreo dip the top half, making sure to cover most of the sides of the Oreo, into the melted dark chocolate. Set melted chocolate side up on the wax paper, sprinkle immediately with chocolate sprinkles. Repeat with remaining Oreos.

  • Using a tip of a small spoon, pick up one eye ball add a small amount of chocolate onto the back using the small spoon. Set on Oreo where you want the eye to be, make sure that it is on the side of the Oreo. Add 2 more eyes next to the Oreo you just “glued” on, place them in a row, right next to each other. Repeat with remaining eyes and Oreos. Set on wax paper to set.
Cupcakes
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare cupcake pan with liners.

  • Mix all ingredients together until moist and well blended. Add batter until about 2/3 full.

  • Place in oven for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees F, then let cool while preparing frosting.

Buttercream Frosting
  • In a large bowl, I use my Kitchen Aid mixer cream together shortening, butter and vanilla. Slowly blend in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time mixing after each addition.

  • Add in the milk and continue mixing until you get the consistency you desire, add additional milk if needed. I like my frosting for this cupcake a little stiffer, this makes it easier for the spiders to sit on. Stir in green food coloring.

  • Using a Ziplock bag with the tip cut off, or a piping bag. Pipe frosting on top of each cupcake. Add Oreo spider on top of the frosting, push down slightly. Then cut Twizzlers into strips, cut 6 for each spider. Insert into the frosting, 3 on each side.
