Granola is great for a snack or breakfast

Granola is more than just a breakfast option; it’s great for a snack or as an ingredient for yogurt, cobblers, and even ice cream. Made with candied almonds and dried berries and baked to deliciousness – like Maple-Cinnamon Granola – every bite is guaranteed to be bursting with flavor!

Serve it plain or with a bowl of milky cereal; either way, you will enjoy the taste. So go ahead and get your hands on the crunchy goodness that is granola; who knows – you might find yourself eating spoonfuls out of the box!

At least one to two mornings a week, I make the kids Greek yogurt parfaits. One, it’s easy. Two, they love the presentation – with fresh fruit, granola, or nuts in “fancy” class cups. Three, serving it with plain Greek yogurt gives some protein to start their day; it’s better than just a regular bowl of cereal.

Is homemade granola a healthy snack?

Often promoted as health food, granola actually has a bit of a bad rap! Many packaged granolas might contain so much fat, sugar, and calories that you might as well eat a candy bar for all the good it will do you.

On the other hand, when enjoyed in moderation, homemade, delicious versions like Maple-Cinnamon Granola with candied almonds, dried berries, and baked to deliciousness, are an excellent source of fiber, iron, healthy fat, and protein – making it an excellent snack!

How to make granola

A few simple steps are all it takes to make this scrumptious snack or breakfast.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and place oven rack towards the top third of the oven. Line the baking sheet with non-stick aluminum foil or parchment paper.

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Stir to make sure all ingredients are mixed well and set aside.

In a medium saucepan, add the butter, water, walnut oil, real maple syrup, and dark brown sugar.

Slowly melt the butter and sugar on low heat and stir/whisk to incorporate all the ingredients.

Once the ingredients are melted and combined, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.

Pour the warm mixture over the dry ingredients and stir together using a rubber spatula – till all the oats and almonds are covered by the sugar/oil/butter mixture.

Spread the granola out into a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and stir the granola. Place back in the oven and bake for another 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow the granola to cool completely.

Once the granola is cool, you can add in any additional ingredients, like dried cherries and dark chocolate.

How to store granola

Proper storage of your homemade granola is essential for you to enjoy it for as long as it will last. Please keep it in an airtight container or jar; this will prevent moisture from getting in, making the granola soft and soggy.

You can also freeze the granola container or jar if you want it to last longer—ensure that it is completely cool before freezing, as any moisture trapped inside could lead to ice crystals forming and ruining the texture. If stored correctly, Maple-Cinnamon Granola can be stored for up to a month!

Is it cheaper to buy or make granola?
