Throwing your own edible Dinosaur Dig Party is simple, easy & fun. Whether you’re celebrating National Dinosaur Day or a birthday, this Dinosaur Dig Party will not only entertain your guests but keep them well fed.

Make magic with Yummy Dino Buddies buried under bread crumbs and candied chocolate rocks; your kids will have fun shoveling their way through to find their favorite dinosaurs.
About 8 years ago, we discovered those kits where you can dig up dinosaur bones. My oldest, Aiden, was 7 when we first got the kits and the little scientist in him was ecstatic. Every year since then Santa happens to deliver them to anyone under the age of 10 in our home.
Anytime the kids get one of these kits, they spend at minimum 90 minutes digging out bones and putting a dinosaur together. We have become pros at preventing the “mess” of dirt by having them dig the bones out in a shoebox, which is a much easier cleanup.
With National Dinosaur Day coming up, and my 8 years old loving everything Jurassic aged, I thought how fun would it be to create the same type of dinosaur dig but with their food.
That’s right, I thought it would be fun to create a Dino Dig Party inspired by those dinosaur bone kits. I initially thought ‘where I will find dinosaur bones?, but was quickly interrupted by my nephew, Crew, who wanted something to eat. My son, Cannon, heated him up some Dino Buddies in the microwave and voila – the idea came to “dig” up Dino Buddies.
Using Yummy Dino Buddies made it fun for kids to dig throw the “dirt”, work up an appetite and get excited about finding their lunch. They were all so excited to eat their Dino Buddies!
So, I put a party together complete with dinosaur shirts, balloons, plastic dinosaurs. Let’s just put it this way, everything was dinosaur themed, even the cups.
How to create an edible Dinosaur Dig Party.
- Gather ingredients:
- Store-bought bread crumbs (plain)
- Chocolate candy rocks
- Dino Buddies
- Spoons, enough for 1 for each kid
- Bowls, enough for 1 for each kid
Directions to create an Edible Dinosaur Dig Party.
TIP: We like to serve the bowls on a paper plate to reduce the mess. We learned this the hard way.
Now, I am not a huge party person, meaning with themes and ideas, but this whole Dino Dig Party was so fun and easy to throw together! The kids were entertained at the table for over 45 minutes, just digging out their Dino Buddies.
Serving up simple and delicious side dishes was a breeze. We had a simple vegetable tray with ranch dressing, crackers, and dinosaur cupcakes. You can put this together in 30 minutes or less!
Not only would this be fun on National Dinosaur Day, but it would really be fantastic for any type of party, from birthdays to fun get-togethers. It keeps the kids entertained and lets the adults visit.
You can even add fun dinosaur facts for the older kids.
After the dinosaur dig, the boys played with the plastic dinosaurs, making them wrestle and battle each other. The girls were all about the stuffed animals, making them homes and playing dress-up.
What’s fun is the kids could even put together the Dinosaur Dig kits themselves and then switch with someone at the table. You could work this however you’d like.
I love Yummy Dino Buddies. I’ve had them in my home for years – ever since my kids were toddlers and they first started eating real food. They loved the boneless, skinless white chicken breast meat nuggets packed with protein and Omega-3. So, Dino Buddies are nostalgic to me and I am so happy to have found my new favorite way to serve them.
Creating your own Dinosaur Dig can also be a fun, educational experience. This little idea can literally be adjusted to fit your party’s age range, from preschoolers to elementary kids. All will enjoy this Edible Dinosaur Dig Party!
Dino Buddies are easy to pick up at your local grocer – use the product finder on their site Dino Buddies to find where they are sold closest to you! You can also find fun coloring pages and quizzes at the Yummy Dino Buddies Facebook page.
Enjoy this Dinosaur Dig party – my kids, their friends, and cousins sure did! I am sure my nephew Crew will have this as his next birthday party theme.
