Simple and easy, we love these Healthier Banana Blueberry Muffins. Made with whole grains, flaxseed, and blueberries, they make a great breakfast or snack.
Ever since we made the recipe for Healthier Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins, we are sort of muffin obsessed. And you know what, I am completely fine with this. Both of these recipes including these Healthier Banana Blueberry Muffins are made with whole grains, honey, flax seeds, bananas, and fresh fruit. There isn’t one ingredient where I feel like I wouldn’t want them to have it for a snack.
And while these are supposed to be a morning delight. My kids actually take these for their mid-morning snack at school. You might be saying, “San a mid-morning snack?” they don’t need that. Well, my 5th grader, Madden, doesn’t eat lunch until nearly 1 PM – yes 1 PM – CRAZY right?! So yes, all my kids get a mid-morning snack at school and to this I am grateful. There is no way I would function not eating until 1 PM with no snack.
At first, when my kids starting attending their school and their lunch wasn’t until late I was extremely irritated but then I soon learned that there was nothing that could be done because our school is one of the “older” schools in the district and their cafeteria is also their gym. Sad to say, but there isn’t much motivation amongst the district to change this. For several years we have talked as parents on fundraising to building a gym but our principal has said that isn’t possible because we don’t have enough room on the property – which is hard for me to believe. But either way, I am just happy that the teachers let these little ones have a snack.
So while I could be the fun mom and send chips or fruit snacks, that just isn’t going to happen. My son, Cannon, loves packing blueberries and since they are on sale right now, I decided to make up a few batches of different kind of muffins so that they can he can enjoy them as well in a baked treat.
Cannon would much rather just eat fresh blueberries over anything else, but my other kids are not the same way. They would rather have blueberries in something. I am don’t really care who I eat blueberries I just happy to have them.
The batter of these Healthier Banana Blueberry Muffins is so delicious. I was more than happy to lick the bowl clean. Not only are these muffins delicious but they are gorgeous as well.
They are so gorgeous, I would even take these as a gift to a friend. And while I would love to add a crumb topping to these (which will be happening) for the purposes of these being a healthier snack, I kept it off.
What is great about this banana blueberry muffin recipe is that I actually prefer it over an overly sweet, sugared-up muffin.
These banana blueberry muffins with yogurt and honey are an easy and delicious way to take out the butter, fatty oils, and white sugar and replace it with something a little more healthy. I prefer Greek yogurt but will use sour cream on occasion, I find that using one of these two ingredients make these muffins moist and fluffy. This is not a dense muffin even though I am using whole wheat flour.
As I mentioned earlier in my first post for healthy muffins this year we are trying to eat less sugar, less white flour and more hearty grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. I feel like this recipe for banana blueberry muffins are not only meeting my new year requirements but they are just as tasty, if not tastier in my opinion that our old blueberry muffins.
So while I am sure for some special occasion we will be adding a sugary crumb, mouthwatering topping until then these muffins will do.
I am excited for you to try them as well and if you have any other healthier snack ideas for my family I would love to hear about them in your comments below. Have a great week, friends! XOXO San

Definitely a must! I hope you enjoy!
These look so easy and tasty! Muffins are in my family so my kids will LOVE these
They have been a hit with the kids for sure. Enjoy!
Best banana muffins I have ever made and eaten. They came out super fluffy. The shape is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. They don’t shrink or sunk even after it’s cold. Each and every muffin top peaks beautifully. I am in love with these. Not only they are candy to the eyes, they taste just as delicious as they look. Light, fluffy, and moist. They are made in heaven. I will recommend this recipe to all my friends. Or better yet, make some more to share with them.
