This 7-layer Dip recipe is a favorite option for gatherings, potlucks, and parties because of its simple preparation and it’s a real crowd-pleaser.

Many people have their recipe for 7 Layer Dip, including my dad. However, this recipe stands out because of the addition of freshly made guacamole and “taco” sour cream. While beans and cheese are the usual staples of this dip, each person adds their twist to make it unique.

What’s in 7-Layer Dip?

My favorite version of the 7-layer dip is simple and highly delicious. It’s important to note that there can be differences in how dips are made depending on individual taste and location.

You can add more toppings, such as jalapeños or diced bell peppers, for added taste and appearance. Additionally, some people might prefer adding seasoned ground beef, shredded chicken or layering with hot sauce for more spiciness. The order of layers may also vary depending on personal preference.

Here are the layers + ingredient list.

In our family, we have a few game-day favorites. The kids and I love beans, so naturally, this dip is a must-have. We also love queso.

This 7-Layer Dip is served year-round in our home or taken to parties yearly. Since it’s a game-day must-have and we love football, basketball, and baseball {playoffs}, we could add this recipe to our monthly dinner rotation.

Now, while my dad may claim that his 7-Layer Dip is better, I beg to differ. The combination of these ingredients, with a fresh guac and tomato salsa, is hard to beat.

How To Make Seven Layer Dip

Begin by mixing canned refried beans with salsa, preferably spicy, to add extra flavor. Once mixed, spread the bean-salsa mixture into the bottom of a casserole dish, I used 7×11″ size.

Make your taco sour cream, by combining your sour cream with 3 tablespoons of taco seasoning. Mix and spread over the beans.

**If you are making this for a later time and not eating it right away, I would make the guacamole layer first, and then the sour cream, for presentation, I prefer sour cream first then the guac.

Make super simple guacamole with fresh ingredients. However, if you’re in a hurry, you can buy pre-made guacamole instead. Trust me, fresh ingredients will taste better.

Start with avocados, salt, granulated garlic, fresh cilantro, and lime. Mix in a bowl & spread over the sour cream layer.

Add a layer of finely shredded cheese on top.

Dice up some cherry tomatoes or whatever tomatoes you have on hand, and scatter all over the top.

To finish, top the dish with sliced black olives and green onions. Remember to keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to serve.
